Willie, the past week etc.

Busy week. Too busy or too lazy to blog.

First things first:
Willie - The concert was good, not the old Willie or maybe the problem was that it was the "old" Willie. Had loads of fun. Didn't drink near as much as we planned. The whole weekend was great.

Baseball -- Yeah! Baseball's back. Love it. Love it. Love it. Went to the Redhawks' season opener Thursday night. They won in the 13th inning. Welcome back boys.

Work -- new gig with my same employer, which means I don't get to work from home every day anymore. Not so crazy about the new client. Hard to explain without revealing too much and getting myself in trouble. It's just different.

Home -- bought a new mattress last week to replace one that we should have taken back to the store right after we slept on it the first night. We've been stiff, sore and hating it for six years. The new mattress set was supposed to be delivered this week. Bad news, now we won't get it until next week. I plan to stay in bed for at least 12 hours when we get do finally get it. Hopefully our expectations aren't too high. We bought a fairly expensive one, so we're hoping that translates to good sleep.

Faith -- Does anyone else feel that their faith was shaken a little bit this week with the news stories about Jesus, the Book of Judas, etc? I'm still trying to process.

We bought a really expensive mattress a few years back. It fixed our back problems for awhile, but now it seems that we're achey and sore in the mornings again. Mr. Diva says it's the mattress, I say we're just old. :)

I saw that about the Book of Judas. Frankly, I'm not sure what to think. I need to do more research....and pray. A lot.

I hate our mattress. It bites. Even with the nice pillowtop we bought to put on top of it, it hurts.

As far as Judas goes, nope.

It's a Gnostic gospel. It's no different than any of the others out there (Gospel of Mary, anyone?).

It was written, probably, by a cultish offshoot of early Christianity, and was kept out of the Bible for probably good reasons.

But, you know, there are two sides to every story, and I wonder what Judas's perspective on the whole thing might have been.

We were joking backstage this weekend that it was pretty much the "Jesus Christ Superstar" story.

Jesus is this funny personable guy. He laughs, he hangs out, etc. And basically in the end, God sets Judas up. Somebody had to do it.

As far as shaken faith, I'm with Sherrie. The Gnostics were heretics. They didn't accept the full divinity and full humanity of Jesus, so of course, any text written from their point of view is going to be a little skewed. The bit quoted inthe papers about having to shed the human body to fully become what he was destined to be – totally Gnostic theology.

Reading about certainly made be grateful for my Catholic education. Knowing the history of the church and how books of the New Testament were chosen helped keep it in perspective

Life is far too short to put up with a bad mattress!

Re the Gospel of Judas: My faith wasn't shaken by it. But I do think it's fascinating, and I'm excited about the discussion it has started. I've read some of the excerpts, and I look forward to hearing more as it is studied.

I figure everything in the Bible is a bit skewed by default. It's the Word of God, but ultimately it's the Word of God as recorded by humans. Does that mean the Book of Judas belongs in the Bible, along with the Book of Mary and the other Gnostic gospels? No. But I hope people won't dismiss it out of hand, either.

Diva - Yeah, we're afraid it might be old age. But we're not willing to admit it quite yet.

Sherrie -- We had bought one of those expensive featherbeds to put on top of the concrete slab we sleep on. Hasn't helped.)

On Judas: I'll have to read some more about it. As a Baptist we didn't do a lot of historical study, just basically knew our bible versus inside and out (anyone heard of Bible Drills?) and then of course, Jesus was at the core of everything we did. So the thought that maybe this wasn't a divine son of God, but just a prophet with a really good marketing plan...well. I'll sort it out. We all will.
